callboy

Theater errand runner

A callboy is a theater employee who notifies performers when it's time for them to go onstage, typically by knocking on dressing room doors or making announcements.

The term also refers to a bellhop or hotel employee who wakes guests or runs errands on request.

In older slang, callboy was sometimes used for a male prostitute, particularly one summoned by telephone.
