Call outs are public criticisms or denunciations, especially on social media, where someone is named and accused of wrongdoing: The celebrity faced multiple call outs for past tweets.
In workplace contexts, a call out is an absence notification: I had three call outs this week.
The term also refers to highlighted text or annotations that draw attention to specific information.
