cafetière

French coffee maker

A cafetière is a coffee-making device consisting of a glass or metal cylinder with a plunger and mesh filter.

You steep ground coffee in hot water, then press the plunger down to separate the grounds from the liquid: I'll make us some coffee in the cafetière.

The term is standard in British English; Americans typically say French press.
