bypass graft
Blood flow alternative
A bypass graft is a surgical procedure that reroutes blood flow around a blocked or damaged vessel, typically using a section of vein or artery from elsewhere in the body.
Most commonly refers to coronary artery bypass grafts, where vessels are grafted to restore blood supply to the heart muscle: He had a triple bypass graft after his heart attack.
The term also applies to similar procedures in other parts of the body, such as peripheral artery bypass grafts in the legs.
