balloon angioplasty
Vessel-clearing catheter technique
Balloon angioplasty is a medical procedure used to widen narrowed or blocked arteries, most commonly in the heart.
A catheter with a small deflated balloon at its tip is threaded through blood vessels to the site of blockage, where the balloon is inflated to compress plaque against the artery walls and restore blood flow.
The procedure is often combined with placing a stent to keep the artery open.
After his balloon angioplasty, blood flow to his heart improved significantly.
