by-laws

Internal governing rules

By-laws are rules that govern the internal affairs of an organization—a corporation, club, or association.

They establish procedures for meetings, elections, membership, and decision-making: The by-laws require a two-thirds vote to amend the charter.

Municipal by-laws (more common in British and Canadian usage) are local regulations with the force of law.
