buying rounds
Pub purchasing tradition
Buying rounds is the pub and bar custom where one person purchases drinks for an entire group, with the expectation that others will reciprocate in turn.
The practice creates informal social obligation—accepting a round means you'll buy one later.
It's my turn to buy a round.
Someone who consistently avoids their turn is considered cheap or rude.
