Drinks on credit
A bar tab is a running total of drinks and food ordered at a bar, to be paid at the end of the visit rather than with each purchase.
The bartender keeps track, often by holding a credit card: Just put it on my tab.
Tabs allow socializing without constant transactions, though they can lead to unexpectedly large bills.
