butanes
Flammable hydrocarbon fuels
Butanes are flammable hydrocarbon gases used as fuel and in chemical manufacturing.
The term covers two molecular forms (isomers) with the same chemical formula but different structures: n-butane and isobutane.
Butane appears in cigarette lighters, portable stoves, and aerosol propellants.
Mixed with propane, it becomes LPG (liquefied petroleum gas).
