buddy cop
Mismatched detective duo
Buddy cop describes a genre of film or television where two mismatched police officers—typically with clashing personalities, backgrounds, or methods—are forced to work together.
The friction between them generates both comedy and drama as they gradually develop mutual respect.
Lethal Weapon and Rush Hour are classic buddy cop movies.
The formula has expanded beyond police to any reluctant partnership: buddy comedies, buddy action films.
