bronze medal game
Consolation round contest
A bronze medal game is a competition to determine third place, played between the two losers of semifinal matches.
Common in Olympic sports and tournaments: The bronze medal game drew a huge crowd.
Unlike most sports where third place goes uncontested, these games give eliminated semifinalists one more chance to reach the podium.
