stud books
Pedigree registration volumes
A stud book is an official registry recording the pedigree and breeding history of animals, especially horses, dogs, and cattle.
Maintaining purebred status typically requires ancestors to be documented in the appropriate stud book: The mare's bloodline traces back five generations in the stud book.
The term sometimes appears figuratively for any record of lineage or credentials.
