boozehound
Slave to liquor
A boozehound is someone who drinks alcohol excessively—a habitual heavy drinker.
The term is informal and mildly humorous, suggesting someone who pursues alcohol with a dog's single-minded determination: My uncle was a real boozehound back in his younger days.
Less harsh than alcoholic but more pointed than social drinker.
