sot
Slave to bottles
A sot is a habitual drunkard—someone who drinks to excess regularly, not just occasionally.
The word is old-fashioned and slightly literary, carrying a tone of mild contempt or pity: The old sot spent his pension at the tavern.
Unlike drunk, which describes a temporary state, sot suggests a settled condition.
