bootleg album
Illicit concert capture
A bootleg album is an unofficial recording released without authorization from the artist or record label.
Bootlegs typically capture live performances, studio outtakes, or unreleased material that fans couldn't otherwise obtain: I found a bootleg album of their 1975 Tokyo concert.
The term comes from smugglers hiding contraband in their boots.
Distinguished from counterfeit albums, which are illegal copies of official releases—bootlegs offer content that was never officially available.
