booktalk

Reader's sales pitch

A booktalk is a brief, engaging presentation designed to promote a book and encourage others to read it—essentially a sales pitch for literature.

Librarians and teachers commonly give booktalks to students, summarizing enough of the plot to spark interest without spoiling the ending: She gave a booktalk on the new graphic novel series.

As a verb, to booktalk is to present such a pitch.
