bone age
Growth plate assessment
Bone age is a measure of skeletal maturity, determined by X-raying a child's hand and wrist and comparing the development of bones to standard references.
Pediatricians use bone age to assess growth disorders and predict adult height: Her bone age is two years behind her chronological age.
A child whose bone age lags behind their actual age may have delayed puberty or a growth hormone deficiency.
