bluepoint

Small Atlantic oyster

Bluepoint is a small Atlantic oyster, named for Blue Point on Long Island's Great South Bay, where the variety was first cultivated commercially.

The name now applies broadly to any small oyster of similar size served raw on the half shell: a dozen bluepoints on ice.

Also spelled blue point.
