blue hair
Anime character staple
Blue hair refers to hair dyed an unnatural shade of blue, ranging from pastel to vivid tones.
The style signals nonconformity or creative self-expression, common in alternative subcultures and among younger people.
In dismissive or mocking usage, particularly online, blue hair stereotypes someone as an easily offended progressive activist: another blue hair complaining on Twitter.
Separately, blue hair is old slang for an elderly woman, from the bluish tint some white-haired women used.
