blue check marks
Social media authentication
Blue check marks are verification badges on social media platforms, originally indicating that an account's identity had been confirmed as authentic—typically for public figures, celebrities, or notable organizations.
The blue check became a status symbol, signifying legitimacy and influence.
Since Twitter (now X) began selling verification in 2022, the mark has lost much of its prestige, now indicating simply that someone pays for a subscription: He's got a blue check but only twelve followers.
