beta radiation

Nuclear electron release

Beta radiation is a stream of high-energy electrons or positrons emitted from atomic nuclei during radioactive decay.

It penetrates more deeply than alpha radiation but less than gamma rays—stopped by a few millimeters of aluminum or plastic.

Beta particles are used in medical treatments and thickness gauges: The beta radiation from strontium-90 poses health risks if ingested.
