beige boxes
Bland storage cubes
Beige boxes are the bland, utilitarian personal computers that dominated offices and homes from the 1980s through the early 2000s.
The term evokes the era when nearly all desktop computers came in the same uninspired tan plastic housing: a sea of beige boxes on identical desks.
The phrase now carries mild nostalgia or derision, contrasting with modern design-conscious devices.
