beach closure
Coastal access prohibition
A beach closure is an official prohibition on swimming or other recreational use of a beach, typically due to contaminated water, dangerous conditions, or environmental hazards.
Health departments may issue closures after sewage spills, harmful algal blooms, or high bacteria counts: The beach closure lasted three days after the storm overwhelmed the sewage system.
Closures may also follow shark sightings or jellyfish swarms.
