bait casting
Fishing reel technique
Bait casting is a fishing technique using a revolving-spool reel mounted on top of the rod, allowing precise placement of heavier lures.
The method requires skill to control line release with the thumb; poor technique causes tangles called backlash or bird's nests.
Bait casting tackle handles larger fish than spinning gear: He prefers bait casting for bass.
