backward dive
Pool entry, reversed
A backward dive is a dive performed facing the diving board, then rotating backward away from the board as you fall.
It's one of the basic dive categories in competitive diving, distinguished from forward, reverse, inward, and twisting dives.
The diver begins standing at the edge, springs up, and arcs backward toward the water: She nailed her backward dive in the pike position.
