backcheckers
Skaters chasing back
Backcheckers are hockey players who skate back toward their own goal to defend against an opposing attack.
The term comes from backchecking—the defensive effort of forwards returning to help stop a rush rather than staying up ice.
The backcheckers caught up to the breakaway before he could score.
