back projection
Behind-the-screen filming
Back projection is a filmmaking technique where actors perform in front of a screen showing pre-recorded footage, creating the illusion they're in a moving vehicle or distant location.
Common in older films for driving scenes: The obvious back projection made the car chase look dated.
Also called rear projection.
In medical imaging, back projection reconstructs images from scan data.
