ash Wednesday

Post-carnival holy day

Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent in the Christian calendar, falling forty-six days before Easter.

On this day, many Christians attend church services where a priest marks their foreheads with ashes in the shape of a cross—a symbol of mortality and repentance.

The ashes traditionally come from burning the previous year's Palm Sunday palms.

I always forget it's Ash Wednesday until I see people with ash on their foreheads.
