ascii art
Text-based imagery
ASCII art is images created using text characters from the ASCII character set—letters, numbers, punctuation, and symbols arranged to form pictures.
It emerged when early computers and printers couldn't display graphics, and persists in email signatures, code comments, and retro-styled contexts.
Simple examples use characters like slashes and parentheses to make faces; elaborate pieces render detailed scenes across dozens of lines.
