ascending colon
Right abdominal tube
The ascending colon is the first vertical section of the large intestine, rising along the right side of the abdomen from the cecum to the hepatic flexure near the liver.
It absorbs water and electrolytes from digested material.
The name describes its anatomical direction—ascending from lower to upper abdomen.
