armed police
Weapon-bearing law enforcement
Armed police are law enforcement officers who carry firearms while on duty.
The term appears most often in British contexts, where routine police patrols are typically unarmed and armed officers are specially deployed: Armed police surrounded the building.
In countries where officers routinely carry guns, the phrase is less common since it describes the default state.
