armchair critic
Sideline fault-finder
An armchair critic is someone who offers opinions or judgments about something they have no direct experience doing themselves.
The image is of a person comfortable in their chair, criticizing others who are actually in the field: It's easy to be an armchair critic when you've never coached a game yourself.
The term is dismissive, implying the criticism lacks credibility.
Similar formations include armchair quarterback, armchair general, and armchair traveler.
