arm wrestle

Grip and overpower

Arm wrestle is a contest of strength where two people grip hands, plant their elbows on a flat surface, and try to force the opponent's arm down.

It's a common informal test of strength: I'll arm wrestle you for the last slice.

Figuratively, to arm wrestle is to struggle or negotiate intensely: The two sides arm wrestled over the contract terms for weeks.
