anti-villain
Villain with principles
An anti-villain is a character who pursues goals typically associated with villains—or uses villainous methods—but whose motivations are sympathetic or even noble.
Where an antihero is a flawed protagonist, an anti-villain is an antagonist the audience can't entirely root against: Thanos believed he was saving the universe.
The term appears mainly in discussions of fiction and storytelling.
