noble cause
Righteous goal pursued
A noble cause is a purpose or mission considered morally worthy and deserving of sacrifice or effort.
The phrase often appears in contexts where someone justifies difficult actions or personal costs: She devoted her life to the noble cause of ending hunger.
It can also be used ironically when the supposed worthiness is questionable, or in "noble cause corruption," where belief in a righteous goal leads people to cut ethical corners.
