anglicisation

Converting to English

Anglicisation is the process of making something more English in character, form, or expression.

Names, words, and customs from other languages or cultures undergo anglicisation when adapted to English conventions: The anglicisation of "München" gives us "Munich".

The word itself has alternative spellings—anglicization in American English, with a z.
