aircraft graveyards
Retired fleet storage
Aircraft graveyards are large outdoor facilities where retired, decommissioned, or obsolete aircraft are stored, often in arid desert climates where dry conditions slow corrosion.
These sites serve multiple purposes: some planes are preserved for spare parts, others await scrapping, and a few may be returned to service.
The most famous is the "Boneyard" at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Arizona, which holds thousands of military aircraft.
We toured the aircraft graveyard and saw rows of bombers stretching to the horizon.
