Air hostess is a dated term for a female flight attendant.
The term was standard from the 1930s through the 1970s, when airlines employed only young women in the role and emphasized glamour and service.
The air hostess demonstrated the safety procedures.
Now largely replaced by the gender-neutral flight attendant.
