aestheticisation
Rendering visually pleasing
Aestheticisation is the process of making something into an object of aesthetic appreciation, or treating it primarily in terms of beauty rather than ethics, politics, or practicality.
The term often carries critical weight: the aestheticisation of violence in film, the aestheticisation of poverty in fashion photography.
When we aestheticise suffering or injustice, we risk admiring its form while ignoring its substance.
Also spelled aestheticization.
