access panel
Hidden maintenance opening
A removable section of a wall, ceiling, floor, or equipment casing that allows maintenance workers to reach otherwise hidden components—pipes, wires, valves, or machinery.
Access panels are designed to be opened without dismantling the surrounding structure: The plumber removed the access panel behind the tub to fix the leak.
In vehicles and aircraft, access panels provide entry to mechanical systems for inspection and repair.
