a bit

To some extent

A bit is a small amount or degree, slightly less casual than "a little": That's a bit much, Wait a bit.

It softens statements: I'm a bit tired sounds gentler than "I'm tired." In British usage especially, a bit of precedes nouns: a bit of luck, a bit of trouble.

Not a bit means not at all.
