Wormwood

Absinthe's signature botanical

Wormwood is a plant of the artemisia family, some varieties of which are cultivated for their aromatic qualities.

It has a very bitter taste that is the basis of its figurative use to denote a bitter experience or a bitter person.

Wormwood is the name of a star in the Bible that caused waters to become bitter, and is also the name of a devil in C.S.

Lewis’s book The Screwtape Letters.
