Wilhelm Röntgen
Wilhelm Röntgen was a German physicist who discovered X-rays in 1895, for which he received the first Nobel Prize in Physics in 1901.
The rays were initially called Röntgen rays, and the unit of radiation exposure—the roentgen—bears his name.
His discovery revolutionized medical diagnosis and spawned entire fields of radiography.
