Wiener Schnitzels

Austrian fried cutlets

Wiener Schnitzels is the plural of Wiener Schnitzel, an Austrian dish of veal pounded thin, breaded, and fried until golden.

The name means "Viennese cutlet" in German.

Outside Austria, versions made with pork or chicken are common, though purists insist on veal: We ordered Wiener Schnitzels and cold beer at the biergarten.
