Viking raiders
Medieval Nordic marauders
Viking raiders were seafaring Norse warriors from Scandinavia who attacked coastal settlements across Europe from the late 8th through 11th centuries.
They came by longship to plunder monasteries, towns, and trade routes, taking treasure, slaves, and livestock.
The term emphasizes their violent incursions rather than Norse people generally, who also traded and settled peacefully: Viking raiders sacked the monastery at Lindisfarne in 793.
