Vatican Council
Rome's ecumenical gathering
Vatican Council refers to either of two major assemblies of Roman Catholic Church leaders held at the Vatican.
The First Vatican Council (1869–1870) declared papal infallibility.
The Second Vatican Council (1962–1965), often called Vatican II, modernized church practices—permitting Mass in local languages, promoting interfaith dialogue, and opening windows to the contemporary world.
The reforms of Vatican II transformed Catholic worship.
