Wedge-shaped drive band
A V-belt is a rubber belt with a trapezoidal cross-section, used to transmit power between pulleys in engines and machinery.
The V-shape wedges into grooved pulleys, providing better grip than flat belts: The mechanic replaced the worn V-belt on the air conditioning compressor.
Also called a fan belt when driving engine accessories.
