Unification Church

Mass wedding religious movement

The Unification Church is a religious movement founded in South Korea in 1954 by Sun Myung Moon, who claimed to be the Second Coming of Christ.

Members are sometimes called Moonies.

The church became known for mass wedding ceremonies where Moon matched and married thousands of couples simultaneously.

Critics have labeled it a cult, citing aggressive recruitment and demands for members to cut ties with families.
