Tom Ripley
Tom Ripley is the protagonist of Patricia Highsmith's series of psychological thrillers beginning with *The Talented Mr.
Ripley* (1955).
Ripley is a charming sociopath who murders, forges, and manipulates his way into wealth and European sophistication.
The character has become shorthand for a certain type of cultivated, amoral social climber: He pulled a Tom Ripley and completely reinvented himself.
