Sam Spade

Sam Spade is the fictional private detective in Dashiell Hammett's 1930 novel *The Maltese Falcon*, later immortalized by Humphrey Bogart in the 1941 film.

The character established the archetype of the hard-boiled detective—cynical, morally ambiguous, and operating by a personal code in a corrupt world.

The name evokes tough-guy noir fiction: He fancied himself a Sam Spade type, but he couldn't find his car keys.
